A Basic Lose Weight Program
There really is no magic to using a lose weight program, even though it can feel that way at times. To lose weight you have to burn more calories than you eat, that’s all. Yet, in most people’s experience that’s not the case at all. It’s gotten so bad most of us have come to believe we need to take extreme action to shed the excess pounds, trying everything from pills to whatever latest gizmo is being sold on TV..
If you really want to lose weight the first thing you have to do is lose all thoughts of instant results and focus on a longer, gradual process.
Rules of Weight Loss
To lose one pound of fat, you must burn approximately 3500 calories over and above what you already burn doing daily activities. That sounds like a lot of calories and you certainly wouldn’t want to try to burn 3500 calories in one day. However, by taking it step-by-step, you can determine just what you need to do each day to burn or cut out those extra calories.
However, you need to determine a number of things first:
- Calculate your BMR [basal metabolic rate].
- Calculate your activity level using a calorie calculator to figure out how many calories you burn throughout the day.
- Keep track of how many calories you eat. You can use a website or a food journal to write down what you eat and drink each day.
Sum up your BMR and your activity calories. Subtract the calories you eat from this number. If you are left with a positive number, you are eating more than you burn and that means you will gain weight. If you left with a negative number, then it’s the other way round and you will lose weight.
